mysql_get_server_version() returns the current version of your mysql client usualy returns the number in the following format XXYYZZ
XX mainversion
YY release level
ZZ current version number
compile with gcc mysql_get_server_version.c -o mysql_get_server_version `mysql_config –cflags –libs` -Wall
